This sweeping panorama of the Cincinnati waterfront was photographed in 1848 by Charles Fontayne and W.S. Porter on eight daguerreotype plates. The large number of steamboats, buisnesses, and churches indicates that Cincinnati was a vibrant urban center at the time.

Reverend Glenn T. Settle was a Cleveland Pastor who headed Gethsemane Baptist Church & organized/directed the famous Wings Over Jordan Choir. The Choir performed on local & national radio & toured the country.

Soldiers Aid Society - Ohio History Center


This photograph taken by Louis Baus shows the Soldiers Aid Society of Northern Ohio, a branch of the U.S. Sanitary Commission, whose headquarters at No. 95 Bank Street in Cleveland (Bank Street no longer exists, but was near Euclid Avenue and 22nd Street). The Soldiers Aid Society of Northern Ohio originally grew out of the Ladies Aid Society, organized in Cleveland in 1861. The LAS merged with other area charities to form the Soldiers Aid Society and worked to provide medical care, clothing, supplies, and food to Union soldiers during the Civil War. Louis Baus, a Cleveland native, was born in 1875. He began as a professional photographer doing studio work before becoming a staff photographer for the Cleveland Advocate from 1911 to 1949.
