In February, 1894, McNabb was staying at the Eiffel Hotel, in Pittsburgh, with his girlfriend Louise Kellogg. She was married to R.E. Rockwell, who was an ice merchant and also president of the Northwest League and Pacific Coast League. Around 8pm, gunshots were heard from the room. Kellogg was shot twice in the neck and later died. McNabb shot himself in the mouth.
