Harry Beasley was awarded the Medal Of Honor for actions during the U.S. occupation of Veracruz in 1914.

Beasley was among a group of 5 men to scale a customs house. One man died during the action. Beasley became a police officer in Newark in 1926. On the night of June 30, 1931, Beasley was shot trying to stop a theft from a shoe store. Beasley died two days later from the gunshots. The assailants were never identified.

The story goes that people are supposed to put an ear to the door and be able to hear screams and voices. Each time I have tried it, I have never heard anything.

It is also known for the statue in front of the mausoleum.
