Daniel Decatur Emmett - Mound View Cemetery

Mound View Cemetery
Section 1, lot 37
Mt. Vernon, Ohio

Emmett was born in Mount Vernon, Ohio in 1815. He helped found the Virginia Minstrels in 1843. While a member of Bryant's Minstrels he wrote Dixie.

William S. Hayes is also said to have written the song. Hayes is buried in Cave Hill Cemetery located in Louisville, Kentucky.

One should notice in the video a flag.

Quite a few people call the flag the Stars and Bars. It isn't. The flag is the battle flag of the army of Northern Virginia.

This is the stars and bars. It was designed by Nicola Marschall, who is also buried in Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucy.

Emmett retied in 1888 and returned to Mt. Vernon, Ohio.
