There are questions about the uniform because it is an officer's coat with cavalry buttons while Sceva was an enlisted man in the infantry. the 134th OVI was one of the 100-day regiments that served during the Summer of 1864. Irregularities of supply caused by the quick deployment of the 100-day regiments might explain the discrepancies.
John G. Mitchell wore this Officer's frock coat during his service in the Civil War. A native of Piqua, Miami County, Ohio, Mitchell began his service as a lieutenant in the 3rd OVI. Mitchell rose quickly in the ranks and became Colonel and commander of the 113th OVI. Late in the war, he was promoted to Brigadier General.
Austin Church wore this overcoat when he served as a private in Company H of the 150th OVI. Church was a native of Chagrin Falls, Cuyahoga County, Ohio. Governor Brough raised regiments like the 150th OVI for service of 100 days between May and August of 1864.
