Joseph L. son of Reuben Jr. & Ann L. Miller. Lieutenant of Hampton Battery, Pennsylvania Volunteers. Born September 1, 1841. Wounded at Gettysburg, July 3, 1863. Died August 9, 1863.

Charles Hazlett - Woodlawn Cemetery

Charles Hazlett was born in Zanesville, Ohio in 1838. Hazlett was 2nd LT. in the 2nd US Cavalry and then promoted to 1st LT. in Battery D, 5th Artillery. He was in both battles of Bull Run, Antietam, Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville.

On July 2, 1863, Hazlett's battery was stationed at Little Round top on the second day of Gettysburg. While at the aid of General Stephen Weed, Hazlett was shot in the head by a sharpshooter. He was buried at Little Round Top then reburied at Woodlawn Cemetery. The marker above is what was installed in 2011.

Medal Of Honor citation:
Voluntarily took a rifle and served as a soldier in the ranks during the first and second days of the battle. Voluntarily and at his own imminent peril went into the enemy's lines at night and, under a sharp fire, rescued a wounded comrade.

Enderlin was a musician in company B, 73 OVI.

The comrade he rescued at Gettysburg was George Nixon III.

George Nixon III was the great grandfather of 37th president Richard Nixon.
