Charles Hazlett - Woodlawn Cemetery

Charles Hazlett was born in Zanesville, Ohio in 1838. Hazlett was 2nd LT. in the 2nd US Cavalry and then promoted to 1st LT. in Battery D, 5th Artillery. He was in both battles of Bull Run, Antietam, Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville.

On July 2, 1863, Hazlett's battery was stationed at Little Round top on the second day of Gettysburg. While at the aid of General Stephen Weed, Hazlett was shot in the head by a sharpshooter. He was buried at Little Round Top then reburied at Woodlawn Cemetery. The marker above is what was installed in 2011.
