Lancaster, Ohio
Thomas Ewing was born in West Liberty, Virginia (now part of West Virginia) in 1789. Ewing started practicing law in Lancaster, Ohio. He went on to become a senator from 1831 to 1837, then again from 1850 to 1851. Thomas Ewing served as Secretary of the Treasury in 1841.
From 1849 to 1850, Ewing was the first Secretary of the Interior. Above is a 1849 Daguerreotype
