Colonel Sanders - Cave Hill Cemetery

Cave Hill Cemetery, section 33, lot 57. Louisville Kentucky. Those are ornamental plants around the Sanders lot. They are encroaching or harming anything. Pretty standard for cemetery decorations.

First off, Col. Sanders was a Kentucky Colonel, not a military colonel. Kentucky Colonel is an honorary title. Even Dave Thomas of Wendy's, who at one time had KFC locations was a Kentucky Colonel. Sanders was born in 1890 near Henryville, Indiana. While running a Shell station in Corbin, Kentucky in the 1930's, Sanders would serve some customers food in the family living quarters. It wasn't until 1952 that KFC was first franchised. Contrary to urban legend, Kentucky Fried Chicken did not shorten the name to KFC because they don't serve actual chicken anymore. Urban legend holds the chicken is a goo shaped into chicken parts. Whoever believes that should shot with a ball of their own poo.

Col. Sanders is buried with his 2nd wife in Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky. His grave would probably be the most visited grave in the cemetery. Cave Hill is 296 acres and was chartered in 1848. It does have a cave that has since been closed off. The cemetery has over 120,000 residents. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, not an honor usually bestowed on a cemetery.
