Born in Covington, Kentucky in 1881, Howard "Howie" Camnitz played 11 years in total in the Major Leagues. Camnitz first came up with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1904. He briefly played for the Pirates again in 1906. His first full year was in 1907, where he went 13 and 8. Howie played on the 1909 World Series winning Pirates team. He was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies in 1913. Camnitz then went with the Pittsburgh Rebels of the Federal League in 1914 and 1915. The Federal League was a third Major League that lasted only 2 seasons, 1914 and 1915. His overall record was 133-106, 2.15 ERA and 915 Strikeouts.

Howie's brother Harry did have a brief Major League career. Harry played 1 game in 1909 for the Pittsburgh Pirates and 2 games in 1911 for the St. Louis Cardinals.
