Jim Varney - Lexington Cemetery

Jim Varney probably will always be remembered as Ernest P. Worrell. The Worrell character started out in commercials in 1980. He always be talking to Vern who was never seen.


Hate to admit that I actually saw the above movies in a movie theater. Actual money was paid to watch them while eating over priced popcorn.

Varney was born in Lexington, Kentucky in 1949. He appeared in all 6 episodes of the variety show Pink Lady & Jeff. Varney also was on Fernwood 2-Night and America 2-Night. His most famous role was of Ernest P. Worrell beginning in 1980. The Ernest character went on to have 9 films, 5 theatrical releases and 4 direct to video releases. Varney did provide the voice of Slinky Dog in the first two Toy Story movies. He was also Jed Clampett in the 1993 film version of the Beverly Hillbillies. Jim Varney had lung cancer and succumbed to the illness in 2000. Varney is buried a few spots over from his parents.
