Dr. James Salisbury - Lake View Cemetery

Lake View Cemetery, section 3 lot 77, Cleveland Ohio

What would you think of with the last name of Salisbury? Anything pop up?

If Salisbury steak is the first thing that comes to mind, then you are on the right track. Dr. James Salisbury is credited with the steak. It's ground meat (usually beef) with vegetables and seasonings and stuff to hold to hold it together.

James Salisbury was an early health food advocate. Even though some of the things he advocated would not be the most medically sound today. Salisbury thought vegetables should be no more than a third of a humans diet. He also thought diarrhea could be controlled by coffee and chopped beefsteak. Salisbury also believed that vegetables and starchy foods were the root cause of Consumption, Heart Disease and tumors. He would be considered somewhat of a quack today. But knowing what some people believe in nowadays, he would be really well known.

Salisbury thought the Salisbury steak should be eaten three times a day with water to cleanse a persons system.
