Dr. Sam Sheppard was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1923.

Marilyn Reese Sheppard.

Sam Sheppard was a doctor of osteopathic medicine. The couple lived in Bay Village, Ohio. In the morning of July 4, 1954, Marilyn was killed in her bed. Sam Sheppard was sleeping downstairs and was awakened. He said he ran upstairs where he was knocked out. After he came back to, he says he saw a person downstairs and he took off after them where he was knocked out again. Blood spatter was in various spots in the house. Some alleged stolen items were found in the brush outside the house.

Sheppard was arrested for the murder and was convicted on December 21, 1954 of second degree murder. F. Lee Bailey was able to appeal the conviction and Sheppard was released. In 1966 the case made it the U.S. Supreme court where the murder conviction was over turned in an 8 to 1 vote.

Due to the trial, Sam Sheppard lost his medical license. To support himself, Sheppard became a pro wrestler known as "Killer" Sam Sheppard. As a wrestler, he is credited with the Mandible Claw which was used by Mick Foley in his Mankind gimmick. Sheppard died in 1970 of liver failure.

Richard Eberling was suspected of the beating of Dr. Sheppard and the murder of Marilyn Sheppard.

Trivia question:

What 1960's TV show and 1990's movie was loosely based on the Sheppard case?

If you answered Murder, She Wrote starring Angela Lansbury, you are very wrong. Murder, She Wrote was a how from the 1980's with a female lead and wasn't a movie.

If you answered the Fugitive, you are very much right.

The TV show ran from 1963 to 1967.

The movie came out in 1993 and starred Harrison Ford.

Both are very loosely based on the Sheppard case.

Summer Of Shadows by Jonathan Knight is about both the Sheppard Case and the 1954 Cleveland Indians.
