Tommy Heinrich - Dayton National Cemetery

The cemetery in 1867 for Central Branch of the National Asylum for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers.

At the time of his death, Tommy Heinrich was the oldest living former Baseball player, the last survivor of the 1938 World Series Winners and the last teammate of Lou Gehrig.

Heinrich was born in 1913 in Massillon, Ohio. His major league career started in 1937 with the New York Yankees, He spent his entire Major League career with the Yankees. He was an All-Star in 1942 and 1947 to 1950. He played in the World Series in 1938, 1941, 1947, 1949 and 1951. He didn't play in the World Series in 1937 or 1939.

Tommy Heinrich played from 1937 to 1942, and from 1946 to 1950. 1943 to 1945 he was in the Coast Guard for World War II. But he was stationed in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan. After he retired, he was a coach for the Yankees in 1951, New York Giants in 1957 and Detroit Tigers in 1958 and 1959.

Heinrich finished with a .282 batting average, 183 home runs and 795 RBI's.
