Any baseball fan would probably remember Marge Schott. Schott purchased a majority stake of the Cincinnati Reds in 1984 for $11,000,000. She quickly became president and CEO of the Reds in 1985.
Marge Schott was known for bringing her dog Schottzie to games. There were two of the dogs, Schottzie and after that one died there was Schottzie 2.
Schott was known for saying complete crap. Saying that she didn't want her players to wear earrings because "Fruits wear earrings". She also called Eric Davis and Dave Parker a certain N word. Also anti-semitic slurs were uttered. Schott apparently kept a swastika arm band. In a 1996 Sports Illustrated interview, Marge praised Adolf Hitler. She was shortly banned for 2 years afterwards. in 1999 she sold her interest in the Reds for $67,000,000.
Towards the end of her life, Marge suffered from various health problems including breathing difficulties.
The monument for the Schott family plot.
Charles Schott, Marge's husband.
