Ettore "Hector" Boiardi was born in Piacenza, Italy in 1897. He came to the states in 1914. Boiardi started working in the kitchen of New York city's Plaza Hotel. He went on to work at the Greenbrier Hotel in West Virginia. While there he catered Woodrow Wilson's second wedding. Eventually Boiardi opened Il Giardino d'Italia in Cleveland ohio.
In 1928, he opened a factory to ramp up production of his products. Boiardi spelled his named Boyardee to help Americans pronounce his last name.
